Smart Fire Safety for a Multi-Use Facility

Fike Safety Technology Ltd in Cwmbran, Wales, is a key manufacturing and design hub specialising in comprehensive fire detection and suppression solutions for the European market. The Cwmbran facility is one of Fike's four global manufacturing locations, complementing their world headquarters in the USA and other hubs in Belgium and Canada.

They offer an extensive range of solutions designed to protect people, property, and processes across various industries, including fire detection systems, fire suppression systems and specialised hazard mitigation.

The facility in Cwmbran is also home to their industry leading training centre. As well as training and support for their fire detection and suppression systems they deliver EAL Level 3 courses in the Requirements of Fire Detection and Fire Alarm Systems for Buildings BS 5839-1:2025.

The Challenge

Fike’s Cwmbran facility is a true multi-use environment, combining over 7,000 square metres of offices, production areas, testing labs, and an industry-leading training centre. With frequent visitors attending courses and staff working across diverse spaces, any fire alarm activation must be communicated quickly and clearly to everyone—whether they are familiar with the building layout or not. Traditional static zone plans and control panels often fall short in delivering real-time, intuitive information during an emergency. The challenge was to enhance situational awareness and ensure an efficient, coordinated response without compromising the aesthetics of the reception area.

The Solution

To overcome the limitations of static zone plans and enhance real-time communication, Fike implemented dynamicZM in the main reception area—a high-visibility location for both staff and visitors. This innovative display provides an active, dynamic fire alarm plan of the building, instantly highlighting the zone affected during an alarm activation.

Beyond emergency scenarios, dynamicZM serves a dual purpose: showcasing welcome messages, product information, and upcoming training courses when not in alarm mode. This approach not only improves situational awareness during critical events but also adds value by reinforcing Fike’s brand and training offerings in a visually appealing way

Implementation

The dynamicZM system was seamlessly integrated with Fike’s intelligent CIE-A-400 analogue addressable control panel, ensuring full compatibility with the existing fire alarm infrastructure. Prior to installation, the display was pre-configured with the latest building layout and zoning information, taken directly from the static fire alarm zone plan adjacent to the control panel.

Installation was designed for simplicity and speed. Using a two-part process, the team first mounted the black anodised backbox with the surface-mount option, followed by fitting the sleek front fascia into place. This streamlined approach allowed the entire installation to be completed within a single day, minimizing disruption to operations while delivering a modern, high-visibility solution.

Results

The implementation of dynamicZM transformed Fike’s reception area into a modern, multifunctional space that not only welcomes visitors but also strengthens building fire safety. The display now serves as a showcase for Fike’s technology and training offerings while remaining ready to provide critical fire alarm information in real time.
