OVERVIEW:

Broadway Studios is a major purpose-built student accomodation project delivering 432 beds across 16 storeys. Located in the heart of Glasgow's regeneration zone, the scheme is scheduled for completion ahead of the 2026/27 academic year.

THE CHALLENGE:

The curtain wall design presented several key technical challenges:

1. 16-storey height requiring Type 1 non-combustible performance,
2. Wind loads up to 1.53 MPa,
3. Large cavity depths (up to 232mm),
4. Movement joint coordination at upper levels,
5. Fixing into galvanised steel without compromising coating integrity,
6. High Risk Building status requiring strict regulatory compliance (Building Safety Act).

A generic wall-tie specification was unsuitable: engineered coordination and regulatory surety were essential.
