Changing Places Toilet at University Of Gloucestershire

OVERVIEW

We recently launched our brand-new campaign, Mission: Accessible, with our first Accessibility Agent, Callum from The Cal Effect.

Mission: Accessible is a real-world adventure with purpose for National Star College leavers, giving them the opportunity to become “Accessibility Agents” and make a real difference. Agents go undercover to visit Changing Places toilets in UK cities, reporting back on their condition, usability, and maintenance. Their feedback is then shared with the Changing Places Consortium, helping to improve facilities nationwide.

This first mission took place at the University of Gloucestershire, located in the former Debenhams building in Gloucester city centre.

Inside the Changing Places Facility

The new Changing Places toilet at the University of Gloucestershire is designed to support students, staff, and visitors with complex needs.

It is fully compliant with BS8300 and Document M standards and includes specialist equipment from Astor Bannerman:

The layout ensures wheelchair users and carers can move freely with the necessary space for dignity and comfort.

A Mission with Purpose

Mission: Accessible is a collaboration between Astor Bannerman and National Star College, designed to give leavers a meaningful role as Accessibility Agents

Our Accessibility Agents play a vital role in Mission: Accessible, visiting Changing Places toilets across the UK to assess usability, condition, and maintenance.

✓ Document and report on accessibility issues, ensuring facilities meet user needs

✓ Test specialist equipment in real-world settings, providing feedback to improve design

✓ Support independence and dignity for disabled people through practical insights

✓ Share their experiences to raise awareness and highlight the importance of inclusive facilities

Through their work, the agents help make public spaces more accessible, turning real-world testing into meaningful impact for communities nationwide.

Making Gloucestershire More Inclusive

After completing his mission, Callum and the team stopped at Mister’s Café & Bar in Gloucester for lunch. Simple everyday activities like eating out are only possible when the right facilities are nearby — underlining why Changing Places are so essential.

By installing a Changing Places toilet, the University of Gloucestershire has taken an important step in making its city centre location accessible to all.

This investment ensures that no student, staff member, or visitor is excluded from engaging fully with university life, demonstrating a real commitment to inclusion.
