Kingsway to the Sea, Brighton Beach

OVERVIEW

Breathing New Life into Brighton’s Seafront

Clients: Brighton & Hove City Council

Location: Kingsway to the Sea, Brighton Beach

Project: Bespoke Amazon Eco Plant Enclosure

Products Installed: Timber Clad Amazon Eco Plant Enclosure with Pergola Roof

The Project

Brighton Beach has long been one of the UK’s most iconic coastal spots, with a vibrant seaside charm and a thriving community of cyclists and pedestrians.

When Brighton & Hove City Council set out to revitalise Kingsway to the Sea, they knew that sustainability, aesthetics and practicality all had to work together. We were tasked to design and install a premium refuse solution that provided secure cycle storage but blended seamlessly with the natural coastal environment.

Client Objective

  • Offer robust, weather-resistant security for both rubbish and M&E services discreetly
  • Use sustainable materials in keeping with the environmental commitments
  • Enhance the visual appeal of the new public space

Our Solution

Working closely with the Council’s project team, we crafted the Amazon Eco Plant Enclosure, a unique structure combining durability, sustainable materials, and an elegant design inspired by natural timber architecture.

Key Features

  • Premium Timber Cladding: FSC-certified, clear-sealed and planed softwood timber battens, offering a warm, natural aesthetic.
  • Robust Steel Frame: Hot-dip galvanised to BS EN ISO 1461:2022 with RAL 7022 powder coating, built for coastal conditions.
  • Three Double-Leaf Swing Gates: Robust handles and hasp & staple closures, with an internal single-leaf gate.
  • Pergola-Style Roof: Made from 65 x 1400mm timber profiles, offering airflow, light and architectural appeal.
  • BREEAM Compliant: Designed to support the Council’s environmental targets.
  • Customisable Options: Including Thermopine cladding and RAL 9005 finish upgrades.

Installation Highlights

  • Clear site access and prep arranged in advance with the Council team
  • Single delivery and install visit completed efficiently with no disruption to other works

Results & Impact

The finished enclosure is a striking addition to Brighton’s regenerated seafront. It provides secure and discreet storage for refuse and supports the council’s ambitions to combine sustainability and practicality on the waterfront.

The natural timber finish complements the coastal surroundings, while the robust steel framework ensures long-term durability in the face of sea air and high footfall.
