OVERVIEW
PROJECT:
The new Urgent & Emergency Care Centre for Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, a £40m two-storey facility providing the Trust with 4,864m2 of additional clinical space.
The specialised facilities, which include an Urgent Treatment Centre, a Paediatric Assessment Unit, an Acute Medical Unit and a Medical Ambulatory Unit, will help meet local demand, caring for up to 90,000 urgent admissions per year.
Axis’s brief for this new, high-quality, modern development included providing doors to the Consulting Bays.
CHALLENGES:
Our main challenge for this project was the space constraints to maximise the space in the Consulting Bays and outer corridors.
SOLUTION:
For the Consulting Bays, we designed and installed 14 sets of our own, award-winning FLO-MOTION® Telescopic Manual Sliding Doors – Type T55. For this project, we finished the door sets in RAL 7024 satin with a brushed stainless-steel handle.
Each set’s two sliding leaves are connected by a sequencing
device so that the primary leaf (fast door) reaches the fully
opened or closed position at the same time as the secondary leaf (slow door) reaches its pre-set position.
Our FLO-MOTION® Telescopic Manual Sliding Doors feature
recirculating ball guides on a special low resistance linear track with a damper mechanism. The 55mm stiles give these door sets their slim-line appearance.
OUTCOME:
The Consulting Bays at the brand new Urgent & Emergency Care Centre at Walsall Manor Hospital provides several significant benefits for patients and staff, including:
• More efficient and effective working
• A more spacious department
• Improved patient experience
• Improved working environment for staff
