The result creates a homely and familiar surrounding, designed in line with the Gold Standard Framework from Stirling University, which is specifically for those living with memory loss. The red brick building is steeped in history having been used as an RAF Convalescent Home during WW2 and once housed the England Football Team before their 1966 World Cup win. With this in mind, it was crucial that the restoration was completed to the highest standard and preserved as many original features as possible. The high standard is perpetuated throughout the building grounds which include accessible terraces, green spaces, and paths, providing a relaxing and secluded environment for residents to enjoy. It is here that Artform’s Ashbery lighting range ‘shines’ making the exterior accessible in the dark by providing ambient and inviting light. Path lights have been placed around the leafy garden along the winding paths - wall-mounted versions stand out against the red building walls - and tall pole-mounted pedestrian units line the entrance, all working together to complement the environment. The trio of Ashbery lights brings together advanced LED technology and optics, paying homage to traditional lantern-style lighting. The range, manufactured by Landscape Forms, has been developed in collaboration with Robert A.M. Stern Architects, celebrated masters of modern traditional design, and Fisher Marantz Stone, an internationally recognised award-winning lighting design agency. Hendon care home offers 102 spacious apartments with a variety of layouts, aspects and views to suit everyone. A modern and monolithic design that creates a striking visual contrast to the contemporary glass and steel architecture. The stone bench range has recently been expanded with three sizes now being offered in new finishes. The client, George Cox & Sons, have a mission to present a high quality finish on all their projects that provide essential transport links. Stockport Exchange is another excellent scheme added to their portfolio. The regeneration scheme has and continues to be a success for Stockport Council and is a benchmark for future renovations to the town centre.

Sybil Andrews Academy is a striking multi-million pound academy. Located just north of Bury St Edmunds in an attractive, university-style campus.BSFG were asked to design, manufacture, and install cycle parking facilities in 2 areas of the new development. Both areas required different designs for housing bikes, the products chosen for the project were the Moreton Gullwing Shelter, and the Deacon Cycle Shelter. Two separate designs of cycle shelter were chosen to suit the two different areas that had unique challenges. The first area had issues regarding restrictions on boundary lines with adjoining areas of the site along with varying ground levels. The Gullwing Double Sided Shelter was chosen to be placed in straight banks this created a uniformed and well thought out area which made maximum use of the space available. The second area also had multiple varying ground levels, the design comprised a fully covered shelter of 168m2, in the style of the Deacon Bin Store which can be used as a cycle compound. The varying ground levels were an aspect of the site that could not be changed, to overcome this the products were modified during the initial design stage to allow the problem to be eliminated at the installation stage. BSFG worked with the client to make the necessary changes.Once the designs has been approved, the products were manufactured and installed on site by BSFG, all within a tight schedule, in order to allow the school to open for the intake of students in the new academic year.Roles & Responsibilities:Design liaison with school, council, contractor, architects and structural engineersSite progress meetings and schedulingFinancial assessment and feasibilityStructural and foundation responsibilityManufacture, supply and installationDefect free signoffOutcomeThe school now has the facility for over 400 cycle parking spaces that are covered & secure. The modern designs of the cycle shelters & compounds complement the school campus.Andy Prestoe, headteacher, said it was “fantastic to finally move in to their permanent home after a long process. The children were so excited when they arrived,” he said. “This is an amazing building – definitely the best in Bury and Suffolk and probably further afield.”

The Tiber Square project involved the renovation of a community space in Liverpool. It was inspired by a group of 14-18 year olds who are members of the Tiber Young People’s Steering Group (TYPSG).The group of young people were given the opportunity to improve their local area thanks to a 100K grant from a national scheme, which supplied funding for just 24 town centres or high streets across the UK.Bailey Street Furniture Group were asked by The Greenhouse Project to supply robust but inspiring picnic sets for the new community development. The products chosen were the Twin picnic sets which includes the Twin Bench and the Mizar Seat from our Metalco range. The contemporary style of the picnic set complemented the overall finish of the location and helped to create a desirable, high quality outdoor space for community use in an economically disadvantaged area. The BSFG team encountered some challenges during the project and due to a restricted budget the project had to be split into two phases. During the first phase BSFG were asked to provide advice and knowledge for the design and installation, as the client had little experience with projects of this type. The team expanded on what the children had already designed and made sure everything stayed within budget. The second phase will go ahead once further funding is secured.Outcome:Tiber Square will have significant benefits to the local community, helping local businesses to grow with the support of the local people and encouraging young people to take pride in helping to develop their local environment. As well as having a positive economic and environmental impact, there will also be the equally important but often more difficult to measure social benefits that result from community wide engagement in events and nurturing a healthy, constructive community atmosphere and sense of ownership. With the space intended to promote cultural events as well as local business, the Everyman and Playhouse Theatre contributed by providing training for organising events on the square, to ensure that the space becomes used regularly and acts as a social hub.Councillor Tim Moore, Princes Park ward, said:“It’s been a pleasure helping the young people of Tiber realise their vision to build a public square and I’m looking forward to working with them on the next phase of their ongoing development of the Tiber site.”

Gaming giants Tombola recently completed the construction of their flagship £7m headquarters at Wylam Wharf in Sunderland, housing over 300 employees creating a stimulating environment for their staff including an in-house gym and bistro. The new glazed structure, built over three floors, is situated within a conservation area on the banks of the River Wear.In line with the overall design brief, the high-quality natural materials used were to reflect the location of the site within a conservation area. BSFG were specified to supply extremely durable tropical hardwood timbers, given the coastal location for the benches and picnic sets provided. Working in collaboration with Colour Urban Design’s concept to create a campus design to promote the Tombola brand.Whilst simple in design appearance, they were anything but that and the key design challenge was the overall size of the timbers, some of which were manufactured to up to a length of almost 9 metres, whilst having a width of 400mm and a height of 200mm. BSFG extensively searched for timbers that not only could be made in one complete length but would also stay straight and have durable long-lasting properties. The search eventually took the team to Holland who hand selected hardwood timbers used for the project from logs in excess of 1.0m in diameter and lengths up to 12 metres. The seating also included LED lighting strips to the underside, providing subtle levels of illuminance to the courtyard areas and all of the framework was constructed using robust steel supports, hot dip galvanised and powder coated to complete the finished products. The scheme has created an improved environment for staff whilst establishing a network of paths linking to the wider area. The high-quality benches provide a continuity with the natural materials chosen for the resounding landscape, bringing all of the elements together to form a connection with the sites Conservation Area.

BSFG were contacted by South West Trains on behalf of Network Rail and Transport for London, to provide additional cycle storage facilities at London Waterloo Station, the country’s busiest rail station with over 96 million entries and exits per year. As the main contractor for this significant improvisation project, BSFG were responsible for the design, systematization and installation. We designed the layout for the additional storage and our efficient design and expertise ensured a smooth process of the venture from conception to completion. The storage solution of choice for Waterloo were our cutting edge two tier bike racks – the Easylift – considering the very limited space available at the station this was the best option to provide the 330 new secure cycle parking spaces to support the sustainable travel choices of its daily commuters. The Easylift is a highly convenient two-level bicycle parking system. The gas-assisted lifting system ensures that a bicycle can be parked on the top level effortlessly. The end of the light-weight aluminium groove rests on the ground so that the bicycle can simply be wheeled onto it and hardly has to be lifted at all. The two levels mean that the parking capacity is doubled! We undertook the necessary Groundwork requirements for the project in one of London’s busiest environments without disrupting the day-to-day runnings of the country’s busiest transport hub.BSFG also oversaw the installation of security lighting and camera systems for the new storage to provide Waterloo Station with optimum secure cycle parking. The result is a state-of-the-art cycle parking area which provides the secure and spacious cycle storage necessary for commuters, cycling enthusiasts, tourists and the general public, at our capital city’s busiest railway station.
