Factory assembled insulating rooflights offered in a range of non-fragile options and U-values.
Factory assembled insulating rooflights designed to provide high levels of natural daylight, with insulation values in compliance with Building Regulations (E&W) Approved Document Part L and Section 6 of the Building Regulations (Scotland) Technical Handbooks.
FAIRs are fabricated from high quality glass reinforced polyester (GRP) which is robust, shatter-resistant and unaffected by extremes of temperature. Long term durability is ensured by the use of resins that contain UV inhibitors and a UV absorbing external surface protection that also provides excellent resistance to degradation caused by weathering. Filon FAIRs are primarily designed for use with modern composite panel systems but may also be used for replacing old or obsolete factory assembled rooflights and can also be used as a replacement for northlight glazing. The central core can be adapted to provide the level of insulation required and U-values as low as 1.0 W/m²K can be achieved.
They are suitable for all kinds of applications where natural daylight is required for working spaces such as factories, commercial buildings, sports halls, stadia, agricultural buildings, and many other building types. A typical service life of up to 30 years can be expected. This could be exceeded by incorporating a Supasafe external sheet. Components include a UV-protected GRP top sheet, metal reinforcement strip to the underlap to allow the use of standard side lap stitch fasteners, rigid foam spacers, a clear film core and clear multiwall polycarbonate core options.
Double reinforced - DR-26 and DR-30 and triple reinforced - Supasafe external sheets are available as an alternative to heavier and thicker conventional production sheets. As these sheets are thinner than the heavier conventional production sheets and whilst providing the same level of non-fragility and robustness, they have a much tighter profile which more accurately matches the adjacent roof profile. This enables a much better seal at side and end laps.

Standard product features | Daylight: Diffusing characteristics provide even light transmission reducing shadows and glare. Surface protection: UV absorbing surface protection is included on the weather face of the top sheet. Further enhanced UV and weathering protection is available for very exposed, harsh environments. Reinforcement strip: A metal reinforcement strip to the underlap allows the use of standard side lap stitch fasteners. |
Product Options | Profile: UV protected GRP outer sheets can be manufactured to match all current profiles and most discontinued ones. Non-fragile top sheet:
Box depth: Box depths are available to suit the composite panel thickness or to suit the application. Rigid foam spacers: 50 mm wide rigid foam spacers at ends and over intermediate purlin positions provide a sufficient area for location of main fasteners through rooflight into purlins; particularly important at upslope lap where overlapping metal panel obscures the fixing position and with ever increasing box depths. Also available in 75 and 100 mm wide variations if necessary. |
