Application

Used in masonry blocks, wall elements, premixed products for light and insulating screeds, lightweight geo-technical fills, underfloor insulation, lightweight and fire resistant mortar, hydro culture and many other applications.

Leca® LWA - Lightweight fill for a variety of civil engineering applications:

  • Lightening the loads on bridge abutments.
  • Reducing earth settlement.
  • Providing efficient drainage.
  • Protecting and insulating service pipe work.
  • Alleviating pressure above natural voids or culverts.
  • Stabilising slopes.
  • Lessening the load behind retaining walls.
  • Void infill.

Description

Leca® Lightweight fill (LWA) is a ceramic lightweight aggregate produced by expanding selected clays in a rotary kiln at temperatures over 1150°C. It has a hard and resistant exterior skin and a cellular interior. These are the main features that give LECA® LWA the optimum mix of lightness and resistance.

It is much faster and easier to place than traditional fills due to its light weight, rounded nature. Installation layers of up to 1 metre in depth can be easily achieved which will help save program time and cost.

Features and benefits:

  • 85% less bulk density and 75% reduction of horizontal earth pressure to retaining structures on average when compared to traditional fills.
  • Reduced settlement periods and increased stability.
  • Superb insulating and free drainage properties.
  • Class A1 (non-flammable).
  • Resistant to extreme temperatures, moisture and chemical attack.
  • 100% inert and contains no harmful substances or gases.
  • Requires less vehicles for delivery – up to 70m³ per load.
  • Resistant to chemical attack.
  • 40% void capacity.
  • Lightweight - 260–360 kg/m³.
  • Thermal insulation 0.095–0.12 W/mK depending on grading.
  • Angle of friction typically 37°.
  • No cohesion between particles.
  • Harmonised to comply with EN 15732.
