Application

For terraces, podiums, roof decks, inset balconies and other outdoor spaces where wind uplift is a concern and a discreet fixing is required.

Description

TerraSmart® Rail is a raised paving system, locking pavers together with its lattice framework creating a solid platform, suitable for both intricate formats and high-load, heavily foot-trafficked applications. Includes a discreet flange headed screw and washer combine to secure tiles to the rail system via the bespoke tapped bolt. Tightening the screw clamps the paving to the rails and provides a successful countermeasure against the effects of wind uplift.

The vertical closure allows for the creation of steps and vertical edges of the paved area. Fixed into the top rail, the vertical closure can work in all directions.

Paveboard™.

Guidance for specification option:

Rigid and resistant to the elements, PaveBoard™ can be cut to size and placed on the flanges of the top rail to fully support the paving. It can also be bonded with tile adhesive in the traditional way, meaning that tiles down to 10 mm thick can be installed.

Base shock pads can be installed under pedestal/ support base to enhance acoustic properties, or to provide additional protection to the membrane.

The top rail can be installed directly onto the supports where very low build-ups are required, without a primary joist. This method reduces the overall height of the system.

For use where very little height build-up is available. Joist cleats are height adjustable, catering for falls, or to meet door thresholds while contributing as little as 3 mm build-up. Manufactured from high-quality aluminium, with a wide base for spreading weight evenly.

For applications where the substrate requires lower point pressure, the 170 mm circular spreader plate can be attached to the underside of the pedestal base.

Guidance for specification option:

The discreet flange headed screw and washer combine to secure tiles to the rail system via the bespoke tapped bolt. Tightening the screw clamps the paving to the rails and provides a successful countermeasure against the effects of wind uplift, resistant to an uplift force of 6 kPa (when used in conjunction with the TerraSmart® Rail Paving System).


Product tested to a maximum of 6000 Pascals in pulsed cycles. No detrimental effects to any of the system were found and no failures were observed during testing.


Components:

  • Screw: Marine Stainless (A4) M4 socket flanged button screw, 35 mm thread length.
  • Washer: Marine Stainless (A4) M4 washer, 15 m diameter.
  • Wind uplift fixing bolt: 6063-T6 mill finished aluminium tapped fixing bolt, 24 x 16.5 mm.
