OVERVIEW
The Challenge
Carrow Road Football Stadium, home to Norwich City Football Club, has a rich history dating back to 1935, with notable upgrades over the years, especially after a fire in 1984 destroyed the old City Stand. With an occupancy rate of over 90% and regularly sold-out matches, the stadium’s washrooms needed a refurbishment to meet the high demands of supporters. The challenge was to create washroom facilities that were not only practical and easy to maintain but also affordable and attractive for a diverse range of fans.
The Solution
Working alongside the end-user, architect, and contractor, Dunhams Washrooms provided a solution that balanced functionality with aesthetic appeal. The Challenger Cubicle System was chosen for its durability and ease of maintenance, crucial for handling the large volume of foot traffic during events.
To ensure the washrooms would be neutral and welcoming, woodgrain and grey finishes were selected, avoiding any distinctive colours that could potentially alienate visiting team supporters. Additionally, modern mirrors above the vanity units added a unique finishing touch, making the space feel more spacious and open while contributing to a clean, contemporary look.
The Outcome
The newly refurbished washrooms at Carrow Road now provide a durable, easy-to-clean solution that meets the high-traffic demands of the stadium. The combination of the Challenger Cubicle System, neutral design elements, and modern finishes creates an inviting, functional space for supporters. The result is a practical yet attractive upgrade that enhances the fan experience, making the washroom facilities as impressive as the stadium itself.
