Rooflights were also specified to increase natural light into the building.Bauder’s Rainwater Calculation Software was also used to perform calculations in accordance with BS EN 12056-3:2000 based upon provided data relating to the building’s dimensions, geographical location and the flow rate performance of the selected Bauder rainwater outlet product. Bauder achieved this by specifying a wildflower, biodiverse roof. This consisted of a substrate-based system with Bauder WB native wildflower blanket. The blanket is a mix of British native plants which mirror the surrounding meadows, providing valuable ecological habitats for a mixture of wildlife.

The original waterproofing on the Maternity Hospital roof had exceeded its serviceable life and begun experiencing water ingress, requiring urgent remedial work. Bristol City Council wanted to optimise the roof area by installing a high quality, long lasting PV array that would contribute to its Solar City scheme that aims to provide one gigawatt of solar power to Bristol by 2020. The installation needed to cause minimal disruption to ongoing work at the hospital and insulation upgrades were necessary to ensure the roof achieved the required 0.25 U-Value.

Arup was tasked to improve and reinstate the entire envelope of the building. Situated in the picturesque village of Tintern in Monmouthshire, the Cistercian abbey is one of the most historic monastic ruins in Wales. In 2013 work started at the abbey to replace the roof of the gift shop, which had exceeded its serviceable life. The brief for this project was to not only repair the failing roof, but to bring the abbey to the forefront of modern-day roofing technology with the installation of a state-of-the-art photovoltaic (PV) system. This led to the construction of a new building, the McCall MacBain Graduate Centre, which also now provides access to the Barbara Naylor rooftop gardens above the different reading, media and seminar rooms of the graduate centre. With the ageing existing waterproofing exceeding its life expectancy, the roof garden terrace was in need of a replacement roof system.As an accessible area which will experience a significant amount of foot traffic, the Bauder Hot Melt was determined to be the best solution for this roof. With a durability to match the expected life of the building and a self-healing system, the Bauder Bakor Hot Melt System is ideal for use on protected roofs such as inverted, paved, ballasted and terrace roofs.The resultApproved contractor Deane Roofing & Cladding carefully removed 439m² of the existing waterproofing, stripping the rooftop back to the concrete deck surface before installing the different layers of the Hot Melt system.The completed roof terrace now provides a modern and peaceful garden area where graduate students can relax and socialize between their work periods. This £14 million Waitrose superstore is built on a brownfield site located in Bagshot, Surrey. The client wanted the new development to replace the green space lost to the building’s footprint and minimise its overall impact on the surrounding landscape. This was achieved through the installation of 4,800m2 of Bauder’s high quality, low maintenance sedum blanket, which is highly visible even at ground level.
