Castle Composites

The Cambridge University Faculty of History required a solution to level the existing flat roofs of the historical Stirling Building. The aim was to create a vibrant and attractive area, mainly used as a throughway, it was paramount that the tiles would match the existing colour of the surrounding building. Our Castlepave GRC Promenade slab (450x450x38mm) was selected, and a custom-made colour was created to blend effectively into the existing architecture. We manufactured various test batches each with a different shade of red, and hand finished aged effect. Once the colour was selected from the various test batches, they were manufactured by hand to the customers specification and delivered to site.We assessed the fall and height tolerances of the roof to determine the number and size of pedestals required to provide a completely level finish. Adjustable Pedestals ranging from 30-120mm,10mm fixed height stackable pedestals, levelling shims, and self-levelling heads were used. The outer row of slabs was cut to size on site, using a circular saw. As shown the results are a flush finish that minimizes the gaps between the slabs and the exterior perimeter. The glass reinforced concrete composition of the slabs mean they are strong and easy to work with on site. The Client was very happy with this stylish and unique finish.

GYM24

GYM24

Castle Composites

Our client GYM24 required a Multifunctional gym space with different areas being used for specific purposes. The brief was to include an area for free weights, an area for floor-based movements and sledge work and an area for resistance machines. The high expected usage of the gym areas meant the flooring had to be significantly resilient. Clear demarcation of specific areas was important to our client also, to create that high end professional feel.To achieve this, we recommended our Castleflex range of Fine Granulate Rubber Gym Tile (900kg/m3 500x500x50mm) with Ramp/Corner edges, 8mm puzzle mats, black with blue fleck (956x956x8mm) and the Artificial Grass (2x8m) Sprint track. Our 8mm Interlocking puzzle mats provide a seamless flooring solution, combined with the straight edge version a clear definition between areas was created. Toxicity tested and made to a high density of 1000kg/m3 for exceptional durability. This product is ideal for fitness applications. Our Fine Granulate Gym Tiles are manufactured with very fine recycled rubber granulate, this gives the tile a sharper surface finish and also makes them easier to keep clean when installed. Ramp edge versions of the Fine Granulate Gym Tiles were bonded down as a perimeter and the inner tiles loose laid in a brick bond formation for increased structural integrity. The thickness and density of the material offers substantial protection to the substrate and also provides acoustic protection. Our Artificial Grass Sprint track was bonded directly to a 40mm Fine Granulate Gym tile which was slightly thinner than the surrounding, to create a flush level finish with zero movement. All of our rubber gym products are easy to install and in this case all installation work was carried out by the client.

Lanark Golf Club

Lanark Golf Club

Castle Composites

We were recently approached by Lanark Golf Club to help with creating a playable pathway directly in front of the 18th green. The existing pathway, which was finished with a rubber topped concrete tile, was causing several problems. Shots were regularly landing directly on the path and the impact was too severe causing the ball often to bounce unfairly through the green. Also the smooth surface on the existing tiles was causing balls to run excessively to the left of the green following the natural slope of the path. Lastly the existing path was not particularly suitable to play shots off or to run balls across. We worked together to identify the 45mm thick Grassflex Play tiles as a suitable replacement. Testing indicated that the impact of the ball landing directly on the tile was far more comparable to turf than the previous solution, this was due to a combination of natural compression offered by the 45mm thick rubber and the drainage channels underside offering further absorption through the air pockets created. The top surface of the Grassflex Play tile also improved the absorption as well as providing a suitable surface to play a chip shot from and to roll a ball across, the grain of the grass also removed the issue of the ball running excessively to the left.Feedback on the job has been very positive and most importantly it looks good!

Roof Terrace Renovation Bamboo Decking from aMbooo

Roof Terrace Renovation Bamboo Decking from aMbooo

Castle Composites

A high-end residential property located in the outskirts of a city recently underwent a significant renovation to replace its ageing wooden roof terrace decking. The existing timber decking, weathered by years of exposure to the elements, had begun to warp, crack, and show signs of decay, compromising both the aesthetics and safety of the terrace. The property owner sought a sustainable, durable, and visually appealing solution that would not only restore the terrace’s functionality but also enhance its overall design. After evaluating various materials, the decision was made to replace the old wood decking with a sand-coloured bamboo decking laid on a bamboo substructure. The installation was completed using adjustable pedestals, which allowed for precise leveling and ensured long-term stability on the roof terrace.

Transition from Wooden Decking to Bamboo Decking

Castle Composites

The client had an existing wooden deck that had been in place for over a decade. The deck had originally been installed as a gathering space for family activities and outdoor entertainment. However, over the years, the wooden decking had deteriorated due to exposure to the elements, leading the client to seek an alternative that would not only restore the functionality and aesthetics of their outdoor space but also provide a more sustainable and long-lasting solution.

Troon Flats

Troon Flats

Castle Composites

Our client wanted a low maintenance but high quality finish for the balconies on a build of high end flats and penthouses.Castlewood composite decking was chosen as it provides good slip resistance and a very luxurious finish. Our composite decking is very low maintenance due to the unique polymer cap that is applied to the decking boards during production. This particular deck board is supplied with a 25 year limited warranty for domestic applications and a 10 year limited warranty for commercial applications. Terms and conditions apply. Our aluminium substructure system was chosen as it is quick and easy to install and will never rot like traditional timber joists. The balconies also had very low thresholds in some areas that could not have been overcome with traditional timber joists. The aluminium substructure was assembled in frames with joists running at 400mm apart to provide adequate support for the composite boards. Additional joists were also installed to support the ends of each decking board where two ends meet. Each aluminium frame was then laid on our DD adjustable pedestals to make them completely level. Decking boards were then secured to the aluminium with our unique fasteners that work with our boards and aluminium profiles. If you have a project that may require this system please get in touch with your dimensions and we will happily provide a quotation for everything required.
