Previously fitted with detachable anti-ligature blinds, these had been removed after being pulled down and used inappropriately as weapons and contraband stash points. The intention is for the new premises to provide much needed specialist SEN and community use play facilities for Bromsgrove.   In the summer of 2021, Contour successfully provided radiator guards for one of the nursery's sister sites at Chessgrove Park. The customer was so pleased with both the product quality and customer service that they approached Contour again for additional radiator guards for their newly acquired property needing refurbishment.  The Challenges: The new property required a tailored approach due to three key challenges that Contour needed to address for a successful outcome:1. Nursery EnvironmentThe nursery environment required a solution that prioritised child safety and hygiene. Young children frequently interact with fixtures, which can lead to concerns like trapped fingers or lost items. Such incidents not only distress the child but also demand time from nursery staff to provide comfort, administer first aid, or retrieve the missing item. The radiator guards selected therefore needed to be secure, durable, and easy to clean. The guards also required pencil-proof grilles to prevent children from inserting objects, ensuring both safety and cleanliness.2. Placement of Electrical TrunkingThe placement of electrical trunking above some of the radiators left too small a gap for a standard radiator cover to fit and be securely fixed. This required a bespoke design to create a custom solution that could seamlessly integrate with the trunking, while still providing full functionality and accessibility.3. Phased Building RefurbishmentDue to the size of the building, the nursery was opening in stages as refurbishment progressed. This meant Contour needed to coordinate a phased supply of radiator guards to align with the nursery’s opening schedule, ensuring each area had the necessary safety features in place as it became operational.Solution ImplementedGiven the success of the previous installation, the customer chose to maintain the DeepClean specification for the new guards for the following reasons: Pencil-proof grilles which prevent fingers and other objects being inserted and becoming stuck.Drop-down door to allow for easy cleaning, crucial for maintaining a hygienic environment. Radius edges and bullnose corners making it safer if someone fell against the unit.Floor mounted, flat top style for its robust, dual-fix system that secures to both the wall and floor, ensuring stability and durability in a high-activity environment. The tweaked design also fits neatly against the existing trunking, addressing the challenges this created. The site was surveyed to capture precise dimensions, account for the trunking limitations, and customise the cover design. Contour developed bespoke flat top radiator guards with tailored cut-outs to accommodate the trunking, ensuring a seamless fit within the nursery's environment without sacrificing space or compromising the guard's structural integrity. The project was delivered in three stages to align with the nursery's phased redevelopment schedule. This approach allowed Contour to provide radiator guards in sync with each area’s completion, ensuring safety features were in place as soon as spaces became operational. By working flexibly around the nursery’s timeline, Contour supported a smooth transition, minimising disruption and allowing the nursery to open sections gradually while meeting their refurbishment goals. InstallationThe installation of the guards was straightforward, described by the client as "an incredibly easy process", reflecting the ease of setup thanks to the design considerations and instructions provided by Contour.  ConclusionOnce installed, the nursery benefits from enhanced safety and hygiene, ensuring a safer environment for the children. Contour recently completed a project involving the supply and installation of 350 anti-ligature radiator covers across 15 mental health wards in Southeast England. The existing radiators posed a significant risk of harm to service users due to their outdated design. After inspecting a single ward, it was evident that all wards faced similar risks. Contour was tasked with surveying, supplying, and manufacturing anti-ligature radiator guards for each ward to ensure safety.The challenges faced by the customer included the absence of anti-ligature radiators, sharp corners posing threats, and cleanliness issues with old guards. To address these challenges, Contour installed a comprehensive range of anti-ligature covers designed to enhance safety and hygiene without compromising heating efficiency. The new covers featured small grilles and rounded edges to minimize risks and facilitate easier cleaning.The results were immediate improvements in safety and hygiene within the environments. The installed radiator guards featured IP3x grilles with 2mm holes, preventing ligature creation. Additionally, drop-down front access was incorporated for easier cleaning, and rounded corners provided enhanced protection. Overall, the project successfully mitigated risks and enhanced safety for service users in mental health environments.

Contour recently completed an extensive project for a care home in Southern England, entailing the surveying, supplying, manufacturing, and installation of 47 LST radiator covers and 100 meters of pipe boxing. The new installations not only brought the care home up to safer surface heating standards but also ensured accessibility for cleaning and maintenance, crucial for infection control.Prior to the upgrade, the care home faced various challenges, including poor access for cleaning and maintenance, exposed pipework posing a burn risk, and aesthetically displeasing rusty covers. Dust build-up, a known health hazard, was a significant concern due to its potential to cause respiratory issues and spread infections among vulnerable residents.Contour addressed these challenges by installing DeepClean LST radiator guards with patented quick-release hinged doors for easy cleaning. These guards also featured BioCote® protection to combat bacteria and open-ended shoulders to minimise dust traps. Additionally, pipe boxing was fitted to conceal exposed pipework, reducing the risk of scalding.The results were transformative, providing the care home with a safer heating solution while significantly reducing infection risks and dust-related issues. With improved access for cleaning and maintenance, the care home can now better manage infection rates and maintain a hygienic environment for its residents. Moreover, the disposal of previous radiators was carried out responsibly, ensuring a complete and sustainable upgrade process.

The refurbishment of children's wards at Leighton Hospital by the Estates Management Team at Mid Cheshire Hospitals aimed to alleviate the distress often associated with hospital visits for young patients. Recognizing the anxiety induced by unfamiliar surroundings, the team prioritized transforming clinical spaces into welcoming environments conducive to children's wellbeing and recovery.Employing an innovative approach, large format prints of wildlife in forest and jungle settings adorned the walls behind beds, accompanied by soft natural colours on walls, panels, and fixtures. The use of RAL Green 6019 on the DeepClean LST radiator guards contributed to the soothing ambiance, seamlessly blending with the floor covering and complementing the blue panelling behind the wall-mounted washbasins. This thoughtful design choice aimed to create a calming and tranquil atmosphere for children during their recuperation.Furthermore, the choice of RAL White 9003 for the guards in the ward corridors maintained a clean and hygienic environment. The DeepClean guards, featuring a patented drop-down front panel for easy access and a BioCote anti-microbial coating, played a crucial role in upholding hygiene standards in critical care areas.To further enhance the natural theme, Contour supplied a column casing finished in RAL Brown 1019, harmonizing with the jungle and forest-inspired décor.
