The construction of a seven-story car park at Blackpool Central was well underway when we received an inquiry for cast iron soil stacks. A total of approximately 1400 meters of pipes and 4000 couplings were needed on-site within a short timeframe.Waterworks Plumbing Supplies Ltd initially requested a quote for our BS EN 877 Halifax Soil system, a common choice for multi-storey and underground carparks. However, an important consideration for this project was the coastal location of Blackpool, where the presence of saltwater in the atmosphere posed a threat to painted surfaces.After extensive discussions among Waterworks, the main contractors, and ourselves, it was unanimously agreed that additional protective measures were vital for this project. Fortunately, we already offered a specialized "Coastal" finish for some of our systems. We were able to provide expert advice and implement the necessary steps to safeguard against saltwater damage.In the end, we successfully delivered the required goods on time, complete, & with a high-quality Coastal paint finish.

Over 1700 meters of pipe, 3500 couplings and thousands of fittings supplied, via PVC & Keyline, to the £3bn ongoing redevelopment of Chelsea Barracks in London.Not the most exciting photos, we appreciate that, but the project itself very much was for us at Hargreaves. Our Kitemarked Halifax Soil cast iron system is fully compliant with BS EN 877, and offers the chance to value engineer a project without having to sacrifice on the unbeatable fire resistant and acoustic dampening properties of a cast iron system.The Chelsea Barracks development was the most sustainable development in Europe in 2021. One of only 16 developments in the world to achieve LEED platinum certification for green building in spring 2021.

One of our projects stands out as a remarkable example of this commitment—a historically significant restoration right here in our local area.For this prestigious project, Hargreaves’ was entrusted to supply and manufacture bespoke cast iron components, designed to align perfectly with the site’s traditional aesthetic, while meeting modern functionality and durability standards. We supplied our signature Cast Iron H16 6x4 Moulded Ogee gutters and Rectangular 4x3 downpipes, finished in a bespoke light ivory coating. Additionally, we manufactured over 300 powder-coated rise & fall brackets with bespoke understays. These fittings were manufactured to precise measurements, delivering a robust and visually cohesive solution that highlighted our ability to tailor products to unique architectural requirements.Another notable aspect of the project was the creation of 12 stunning, bespoke cast iron planters, which now grace the grounds and add an elegant touch to the surrounding landscape. These handcrafted pieces are a testament to our skilled craftsmanship and attention to detail.This restoration project was particularly special to us, not only due to its historical significance but also because of its proximity to our foundry. Contributing to a landmark so close to home was a rewarding experience for our entire team. This 18th Century home was once the family home of the Earls of Dudley, and is now host to weddings, fairs, festivals and more. The lead rainwater pipes and hoppers were weathered beyond repair and required replacing, and cast iron was the material of choice.Hargreaves visited site several times to understand the requirements and measure up to carry out an accurate take off.After we submitted the quote, the order was placed with us by SIG Roofing Dudley.Due to the condition of the existing lead fittings, they were not suitable to be cast from directly, so our technical team took measurements and produced technical drawings to be handed over to our pattern shop. We also produced drawings of bespoke hoppers and "D" emblems for the barrels of square & rectangular rainwater pipes. Once the drawings were finished and patterns manufactured, the castings were produced in our foundry in Halifax and painted to our customers preferred RAL colour before being carefully packed and shipped to site for installation.This job is a perfect example of many of the strengths of Hargreaves Foundry Drainage over our competitors in the rainwater industry.  

Customer - Cast Iron UK This Grade l listed building was completed in 1877, many of the original Cast Iron drainage components are still present on the building today. In 2022 the building is to undergo a full refurbishment process, this includes replacing a number of existing ornate rainwater pipes and fittings. Using some of the original samples our involvement will be to replicate and supply the following new castings such asOrnate Style Twisted Round Pipes & FittingsOrnate Floral Design Square Pipes & FittingsOrnate Floral Design Rectangular Pipes & Fittings.Various Bespoke Brackets & Earband Fixings. Project Status – Ongoing (further photos to follow) 

Milburngate is a 450,000 sq ft development on the banks of the River Wear in the heart of Durham. With office, retail, leisure and residential space to let.The requirement was for a cast iron above ground BS EN 877 drainage system with excellent fire ratings and acoustic properties.Our system's third party accreditation (BSI Kitemark) was enough to convince the client to go with the Halifax Soil. Our products were also a more cost effective option than that of our competitors on this project.The order was placed via Crossling Newcastle. We delivered each call off direct to their yard, as per their request. Direct to site deliveries were offered at no extra cost, but not required on this occasion.The job required over 800 meters of pipe (supplied in 3 meter lengths) & over 1200 ductile iron couplings. 

 The Queen Alexandra Hospital is a large NHS hospital in Portsmouth, Hampshire. The requirement was for a cast iron above ground BS EN 877 drainage system with excellent fire ratings and acoustic properties to carry out the refurbishment of their large car park.The Waterworks Plumbing Supplies Ltd won the project & chose our Kitemarked Halifax Soil system for the job.A blanket order was placed with call offs being made when required. The system was delivered in phases direct to the Hospital in Portsmouth, following strict delivery instructions and pre-agreed delivery slots. The job required over 1200 meters of pipe (supplied in 3 meter lengths), over 1200 ductile iron couplings (supplied with electrical continuity) & 900 coated adjustable brackets.

Here’s a Throwback from 2014. Princethorpe College in WarwickshireThe building was originally built as St Mary's Priory for a community of French Benedictine nuns in the late 1830s, before becoming a Catholic College in 1966.For our part of the refurbishment, we had to replicate the 100+ year old rainwater pipes, gutters, hoppers and fittings. Every part of this job was bespoke. And that meant A LOT of pattern work.It was typical of rainwater pipes from this era to be rectangular, but these were octagonal in shape and slightly larger than the common 100x75mm.The pipes had plain sockets and were to be attached to the wall with bespoke decorative earbands.The gutters & fittings, although fairy typical in profile, had a “dogtooth” design across the front. Something which, at the time, we hadn’t made before.The existing decorative hopper heads needed replacing too, and due to the buildings listed status, these needed replicated exactly.Everything was then cast in our foundry here in Halifax, before being fettled and painted, ready for despatch.There was lots involved in this job, but it’s a great example of the highly skilled craftmanship of our pattern makers, Foundrymen and painters.

We supplied 3 miles of cast iron Halifax Drain pipe as part of the £11million works on The Queensway Tunnel , which runs beneath the River Mersey between Liverpool and Birkenhead.Our Kitemarked underground drainage system was supplied through Smith Brothers Stores Liverpool.To ensure safe and efficient handling of the pipes below ground, we designed and manufactured custom wheeled stillages specifically for the project.

Romney Court is a large apartment complex in Shepherd's Bush, London containing more than 75 residential apartments.The requirement was for a cast iron soil system as part of a large refurbishment project. Hargreaves' Traditional Express (TX) push fit soil system was chosen for the refurbishment. The traditional look of the system was well suited to the building, and the push fit socketed pipes & fittings offered substantial time & labour savings during installation compared to a more traditional caulked system.Over 500 meter of pipe (supplied in both 3 & 1.8 meter lengths) were required, as well as over 600 push fit couplings and 50 bespoke made to order branches, all supplied in a standard full gloss finish.
