The main objective of the acoustic design was to meet the acoustic requirements whilst reducing the embodied carbon of the acoustic design. This was achieved by using GenieMat® RST, which is made from 94% recycled car tyres diverted from landfill, and the carbon negative GenieBoard. As a result, a saving of 16.6kg CO2/m2 was achieved by using recycled and recyclable products compared to traditional construction types. This equates to a total of 73 tonnes of C02e saved across the project. As this build-up is dry laid, it is fully demountable and recyclable at the end of its life. The post completion testing demonstrated that the build-up exceeded the acoustic requirements in average by 4dB in airborne (providing a DnTw of 60dB) and 2dB in impact (providing a L'nTw of 54dB). Lifting platforms integrated flush within the remaining gym area and colourised to highlight drop area.“We recently installed Pliteq flooring in our brand new Meadowbank facility. The product is top quality and the noise dampening in our free weights area is great. The noise from dropping weights is completely minimised making the experience of other users more enjoyable. There is also no reverb heard or felt in other rooms nearby.”

The design of the apartments has been done in close corporation between the design team and installed to a high specification by Berkeley Capital East Thames and specialist Flooring and Carpentry Contractors below Luxury Vinyl tiles and wood floors.The environmentally friendly construction has exceeded Approved Document E requirements plus 5dB while offering a quick and simple install and cost saving.Further design work was carried out to acoustically isolate the ground floor industrial unit on Plot 6 with the GenieMat® FF50NC while minimising the deflection under various live loads. Materials were installed to a high specification by the specialist concrete / frame contractor.Further designs were developed to ensure that the industrial unit ceilings were isolated to mitigate noise intrusion into the luxury apartments. This was designed using the GenieClip® RST and GenieClip® LB. These products will be installed by the Specialist Drylining Contractor.

The design of the apartments were finished to a high specification by St George City and Specialist Screeding Contractors.The environmentally friendly construction using the GenieMat® FF05NP has exceeded residential Approved Document E requirements while offering a quick and simple install and cost saving.Ensuring that residents have state of the art facilities, a gym has been included in the development. Mitigating heavy-hard impacts in a gym is not a challenge, as the use of the GenieMat®FIT70 gym tile allows residents to enjoy the facilities whilst ensuring that sound is not transmitted into the residential units.

There will also be luxurious private changingfacilities complete with individual showers for members to use.ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONThe new facility is flanked by retail businesses and residential accommodation above, this focused the attention given to the buildings acoustic performance. Not only were they looking to mitigate any vibration caused by weight drops in the basement, they also had functional areas and spin suites to deal with.The solution identified by the acoustical consultant was the GenieMat FIT70 sitting on top of a layer of GenieMat FF25. In the functional suites and spin studio the solution was installing GenieMat FF25, as the operator wanted to offer a mixture of finishes in these areas. In the middle of the strength zone they installed a track that was detailed with the GenieMat FIT70 standard ramps, this demonstrated a clean and tidy transition between the two working areas.

ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONThis fitness centre is located above a number of noise sensitive retail outlets and the existing wood effect vinyl flooring was not attenuating the noise and vibration from heavy impact in the free weights area.Further to comparative on site testing the client selected GenieMat FIT70 installed above a GenieMat FF25 floating floor.To address the height difference between the old and new flooring systems GenieMat FIT70 Standard Ramps were installed around theperimeter of the GenieMat system.

ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONThe client was impressed by the performance, quality and ease of installation of the GenieMat FIT Hybrid System installed at a previous location. When a new gym was proposed in a mixed use development with both restaurant and cinemas in the adjacent spaces the client insisted that the gym be installed with the GenieMat FIT Hybrid Systems. The noise and vibration from heavy impacts was reduced to acceptable levels in the adjacent spaces.

Snap fitness wanted to mitigate heavy impact noise associated with the free weight area, as this gym was located in an old paper mill surrounded by a mix of noise sensitive retail and office units.ACOUSTIC SOLUTIONThe client selected GenieMat FIT70 installed on top of a GenieMat FF25 floating floor as the most cost effective and efficient system toreduce disturbance to the adjacent tenants.
