This CPD will examine curtain walls – the outer covering of a building with the main purpose of keeping the weather out in the most aesthetically pleasing way. The seminar moves through the design, detail and delivery processes integral to curtain walls. By the end of the CPD you should have a better understanding of: - The design, detailing and delivery of curtain walling, its purpose, its performance and its construction. - What your system supplier of choice should be offering and how they can assist the architect with all aspects, from concept, through design, to completion. - Why you need to consider many aspects of the design. - How curtain walling interfaces with the surrounding structure. - How external influences can affect design of curtain walling

We will be looking into the history of Aluminium windows. Starting from a non-thermal window through to a polyamide and polyurethane thermally broken window. We will cover the brief history of Approved Document L and the changes in there which have influenced the design of aluminium windows over the years. By the end of the CPD you should have a greater understanding of: - The history of Approved Document L - The evolution of an aluminium window - CEN standard U values achieved with the different products and showing how they have improved over the years - The benefits of using a polyurethane system.
