A Legacy of Innovation in Security and Urban Design
Since 1974, Townscape has been at the forefront of hostile vehicle mitigation and street furniture solutions, establishing itself as a trusted partner in designing safer, more resilient urban environments across the UK and internationally. With over 50 years of manufacturing expertise and more than 10,000 product lines, Townscape offers the widest variety of finished solutions tailored to the unique demands of modern security and landscape design.
Our journey began in an era when security and aesthetic design were often viewed as opposing forces. We were founded on the principle that effective protection could be achieved without sacrificing the visual and functional integrity of public spaces. Through five decades of innovation, continuous improvement, and close collaboration with the design and security community, we have established ourselves as the UK's most comprehensive manufacturer of integrated HVM and street furniture solutions.
Today, Townscape operates from state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities across the UK, with production partnerships extending globally. Our factories are equipped with advanced manufacturing capabilities spanning concrete casting, steel fabrication, finishing, and assembly, allowing us to maintain complete quality control over every product that leaves our facilities. We employ skilled craftspeople, engineers, and designers who understand that security infrastructure must perform flawlessly while enhancing, not detracting from, the environments it protects.
Who We Are
Townscape is a UK-based manufacturer and design partner serving specifiers, landscape architects, security consultants, and engineers across both the private and public sectors. As a recognised member of the Perimeter Security Suppliers Association (PSSA), we operate to the highest industry standards and maintain active engagement with the UK's leading security and procurement frameworks.
Our Role in the Specification Process
Townscape supports specifiers at every stage of the design and procurement journey. We provide:
Pre-specification Support: Our technical team works with architects and security consultants during the schematic design phase to identify appropriate solutions, discuss options, and ensure requirements are properly understood before detailed design begins.
Comprehensive Technical Data: Every product is backed by full technical specifications, performance data, material certifications, maintenance requirements, and BIM information. Specifiers can feel confident that they have all the information needed to make informed decisions.
Testing Documentation: For products carrying PAS 68 and IWA 14 certifications, we provide full crash test reports, performance matrices, and independent test certification.
Design Flexibility – While we maintain an extensive standard product range, we're equally committed to bespoke solutions. If no standard product meets your exact requirements, we'll work with you to develop a custom solution, complete with testing and certification where appropriate.
Ongoing Support – From tender clarifications through to installation and maintenance, our team remains available to support specifiers and their teams throughout the project lifecycle.
What We Do
We specialise in Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) solutions that protect critical infrastructure, public spaces, and commercial environments from vehicular threats. Our product range is underpinned by rigorous crash testing and comprehensive technical documentation, providing specifiers with the confidence to specify with certainty.
PAS 68 Crash-Tested Barriers and Blocks
Our portfolio includes purpose-designed barriers, blocks, and street furniture that have undergone independent crash testing to PAS 68 standards. These products carry certified performance data verifying their ability to stop vehicles of specified mass at defined speeds. Whether protecting government buildings, shopping centres, or critical infrastructure, our PAS 68 range offers transparent, testable performance specifications that architects and engineers can specify with full confidence.
PAS 68 is the UK's nationally recognised standard for vehicle security barriers, developed in partnership with the security industry and government bodies to ensure that barriers claiming protective capability can substantiate that claim through independent testing. A product tested to PAS 68 has been subjected to real crash tests using actual vehicles, with impact force, barrier deformation, and vehicle penetration all carefully measured and recorded.
Bespoke Security Infrastructure
Where standard solutions don't suffice, our design and manufacturing capabilities allow us to work directly with specifiers, architects, and security consultants to develop custom installations. We've created solutions ranging from uniquely shaped barrier systems that fit specific site constraints to integrated structures combining bollards, planters, seating, and lighting into unified landscape interventions.
Bespoke work follows a structured process:
- Initial Consultation – We meet with the design team, understand the specific security requirements, constraints, and aesthetic objectives, and begin exploring what's possible.
- Concept Design – We develop initial concepts exploring different approaches, materials, and configurations. These are presented visually and discussed to refine the direction.
- Detailed Design – Once direction is agreed, we develop full technical drawings, specifications, and material schedules. This stage may involve structural calculations, materials testing, and coordination with other building systems.
- Testing and Certification – Our range in independently crash tested to PAS 68 or IWA 14 standards. This proves that your bespoke solution delivers the protective capability you need.
- Manufacturing and Installation – We manage the full manufacturing process and can provide installation support, ensuring your vision is realised to specification on site.
UK Manufacturing Facilities
Our manufacturing facilities are located in the UK, equipped with:
Concrete Production – State-of-the-art concrete batching, casting, and finishing facilities producing everything from small aesthetic planters to large-format heavy-duty barrier blocks. Our concrete production includes quality control measures ensuring consistent strength, finish quality, and performance. We can produce both standard precast products and custom formulations to meet specific project requirements.
Finishing and Assembly – Dedicated facilities for powder coating, painting, polishing, and final assembly. Every product is finished to specification, whether that means a pristine powder coat, weathered steel effect, or polished stainless finish.
Testing and Quality Control – On-site facilities for material testing, dimensional checking, and quality assurance. Every product batch is sampled and tested to ensure it meets specification and performance requirements.
Sustainability and Environmental Responsibility
Townscape is committed to reducing our environmental impact:
- Material Efficiency – We optimise designs to use minimum material while maintaining performance and aesthetics
- Waste Reduction – Manufacturing processes are designed to minimise waste; scrap is recycled where possible
- Energy Efficiency – Our facilities utilise efficient equipment and, increasingly, renewable energy sources
- Sustainable Sourcing – We work with suppliers committed to responsible material sourcing, particularly for timber
- Product Longevity – Designing products to last 20+ years reduces lifecycle environmental impact compared to products requiring replacement every 5-10 years
- Circular Economy – We're exploring take-back and recycling schemes for end-of-life products, particularly polymer and steel components
