More often than not, new residential areas are built on previously undeveloped land.On this occasion, a Grade II historic listed building, including a former hospital, was utilised instead to create a luxury development.With a reputation for quality, WIDOPAN was selected as the waterproofing product of choice for a number of aspects of the project.Building work on the Barnes Hospital building in Cheadle was originally completed in 1875. It is a prominent landmark and an example of Victorian Gothic Revival architecture.Situated on a mount overlooking the surrounding roads, the hospital is a familiar sight to all in the local area.In 1999, the hospital closed, and although the building was promptly listed to protect it from demolition, it unfortunately became derelict.Almost 20 years later, the site was chosen by Henley Homes PLC for regeneration.Barnes Village was to become a new development, creating 156 new homes on the site of the old Barnes Hospital (A Grade II listed building).A total of 39 conversion apartments were to be built within the original hospital itself.In the spacious grounds surrounding the hospital would stand 117 new-build, two, three and four-bedroom family homes.WIDOPAN products were selected for a number of areas, one of which was a 360m2 concrete podium deck that was built over a car park.In the design of this deck, architects recognised insufficient falls on the concrete slab and ponding water was a potential issue.To resolve this problem, WIDOPERL polymer lightweight screed was utilised to create the falls.

Situated on the South Bank of the River Thames, with Westminster Bridge at its side, sits County Hall.Surrounded by such historic venues, this was a perfect location to showcase a wide range of WIDOPAN products.Waterproofing County Hall.With the original construction of County Hall starting in 1911, the building was opened by King George V in 1922.The North and South blocks were then later added between 1936 and 1939.This iconic Grade II listed building was the headquarters for the local government of London for 64 years until the 1980s.Today, the building houses several top London tourist attractions, including two hotels.As with many buildings of this age, the integrity of the waterproof seal had become a concern.When repair works were needed for the various roof structures, the client knew that WIDOPAN liquid waterproofing products were needed for the job.This project required the waterproofing of many complex and difficult-to-access areas, with different requirements depending on the area.Many different WIDOPAN products would be called upon and used by various approved contractors over the course of this prestigious renovation project.

Whether industrial, commercial or, in the case of this next project, residential.A new development was planned for this leafy suburb of London, and once again, WIDOPAN was contacted to help.Millbrook Park, Mill Hill, LondonThe vision for Millbrook Park was to create a thriving and sustainable community comprising a range of imaginative new homes.Architects designed a range of houses and apartments to suit today’s lifestyles.The project would include a range of community facilities, the new Millbrook Park Primary School and almost six hectares of open space.The project was carried out by Taylor Wimpey Plc in 2017.WIDOPAN waterproofing products were selected to provide waterproof sealing to the apartment building being built as part of this development.The Heron Apartments, to the north of the site, had two large expanses of roof area that required waterproofing work.The first was the main roof that doubles up as the 4th-floor terraces for the duplex apartments. The second was an elevated roof on the same structure.WIDOPAN products and systems were the perfect solutions for meeting the waterproofing demands of this stylish structure.WIDOPAN-FD Polyester Waterproofing SystemThe approved contractors selected to carry out the work at Millbrook Park were T&T Roofing Limited.Being a newly built concrete structure and work planned to span some of the winter months, it was a potentially demanding situation.

WIDOPAN products were chosen for the waterproofing and resurfacing works which were required for the grandstands atNewmarket’s prestigious July Course. The stands house restaurants & bars beneath, with multiple skylights set into the risers of the stands. The existing precast concrete and polysulphide mastic had started to fail, resulting in cracks in many areas, and water ingress around the skylights and other weak points.Firstly, WIDOCRYL-Primer PM was applied to the surface. Whilst still wet, polyester fabric mesh was laid into the primer as a reinforcement. WIDOCRYL-TEN encapsulating 165g reinforcement fleece was used as the waterproofing seal around the skylights, upstands and other details, with the rest of the surface receiving a self-levelling layer of WIDOCRYL-SV with PD-Powder. Finally, theentire surface received a slip-resistant wearing courseof WIDOCRYL-Topsiegel in Traffic Grey colour, with Traffic Yellow colour used for markings on steps.The finished result gives the grandstands a new lease of life, whilst providing a secure waterproof seal and a hard wearing, slip resistant surface.

WIDOPAN Products were selected for this new hotel development in the Welsh capital…The Premier Inn hotel in the newly regenerated area of Cardiff Waterside has enjoyed the WIDOPAN treatment.As a thriving business and leisure hub in the Welsh capital with 210 rooms, this is the largest Premier Inn in the city.WIDOPAN products cover approximately 1200m2 of roof area, waterproofing and protecting the stunning new building.With a warm roof build-up consisting of a tapered insulation scheme, the first job was to tape and seal all joints in the newly laid insulation boards.We completed this using WIDOPAN Fiber Joint Tape laid into wet WIDOPAN-Universal Primer.

After the conclusion of the games, the Athletes’ Village was adapted to create a new residential quarter, East Village.The adaptation and new construction created over 2,000 new dwellings, including 1300 affordable homes for sale and rent. Temporary partitions installed during the games were removed, making a range of one to five-bed homes, including apartments and townhouses.Developers again selected WIDOPAN products to accomplish the various changes to the building. Various alterations to the original structure gave rise to a need for new waterproof seals on a number of the new apartment blocks.The finished result using WIDOPAN-FD in grey gives a striking image, especially when viewed from above. The renovation work undertaken provides a secure and durable waterproof seal for buildings set to house thousands of new people.In addition to the alteration of the buildings, the developers created new parklands and much-needed extra transport links.A health centre for residents of East Village and the surrounding areas has also been provided. At the prestigious Twelve Trees Park multi-level residential development by Berkeley Homes, Widopan UK was specified to deliver a solution after a major challenge arose post-construction: the finished floor levels were found to be outside the tolerances required for the final floor finishes to be installed. The project team faced a significant obstacle traditional methods of correcting floor levels were not viable due to strict weight load limitations across the multi-storey structure. This made typical screed solutions unsuitable and risked both project delays and structural non-compliance. Widopan UK responded by providing its lightweight Widoperl-Screed System, uniquely capable of addressing the level corrections without compromising the building’s load-bearing constraints. The screed’s flexibility in application thickness and rapid curing time enabled seamless levelling over large areas while maintaining compliance with all structural requirements. This intervention not only allowed floor finishes to proceed as specified, but also avoided costly structural alterations or delays, showcasing the Widoperl-Screed’s value in challenging, weight-sensitive developments.

Extreme weather offshore takes its toll on steel.Replacing a steel roof is extremely costly and demands a rig be returned to port or to a yard for roof replacement.Water was heavily penetrating through the roof of thecommunication and emergency generator rooms. This roof/platform needed to be trafficable for foghorn usage.Widopan provided WIDOCRYL Special Primer PMspecifically developed for use on metal surfaces and in particular steel.The Area was assessed and compatibility tests undertaken.Rust removed,Abraded with flat disc,Cleaned with acetoneTreated with a rust inhibitor.WIDOCRYL-PM Ten was applied on top of the primer using a roller.Detailing points around the fog horn and other upstands and roof penetrations were fully reinforced with polyester fleece. WIDOCRYL-PMTen is cold applied and creates a permantly elastic membrane. It's a rapid curing, fully monolithic and self terminating.A final coating of WIDOCRYL-Topsiegel PM was cold applied as a surface coat.
