Application

Roof glazing applications, to be used in conjunction with SkylineBox patent glazing.

Description

We supply a versatile range of self-supporting skylights based on the Skyline Box, Skyline and Heritage type Patent Glazing bars. These are available in hipped, gable and polygonal designs: we can also include optional glazed vertical upstand frames to provide a truly flexible ‘lantern’ type skylight which is designed and manufactured specifically to meet your needs.

Self-supporting skylights are mostly supplied in a double glazed format but are also available in single and triple glazed formats to suit your requirements. They incorporate structural aluminium ridge/hip and cill members and are secured to a suitably weathered and finished flat topped structural upstand curb. The finished curb must be supplied at least 100mm wide to accommodate our cill member. We manufacture to 5° increments from 15-45° pitch and any size from 1500mm to 6000mm in width. These skylights can be supplied in any length required, whilst stainless steel tie wires are supplied at approx. 3 metre intervals along the ridge line to prevent lateral movement of the structural builder’s kerb.

The structural kerbs (to be provided by the main contractor) to which our skylights are attached, should be designed by the structural engineer to accommodate all lateral loadings imposed by the skylight (approx. 340 N/m²). If the kerbs have insufficient strength to resist 'spreading' (which is usually the case), then the use of stainless steel tie wires, as described above, becomes a requirement to prevent any spreading of the structural kerbs.

Features and benefits:

  • Low profile self-supporting skylight
  • Available with a choice of two cosmetic outer snap-on cappings which conceal all fixing screws.
  • External capping manufactured from durable aluminium
  • Can be combined with opening vents to offer a complete glazing solution.
  • Can span 1–30 panes in length and 1–10 panes in width - consult manufacturer for details.
  • Incorporates an extruded aluminium structural ridge, hip and sill members and 16 gauge aluminium insulated flashings to ridge or apex, hip/ verge and sill positions.
  • Manufactured in accordance with BS 5516: 2004 Code of Practice for the design and installation of vertical and sloping patent glazing.
