Carrow Road Stadium

Dunhams Washroom Systems

The ChallengeCarrow Road Football Stadium, home to Norwich City Football Club, has a rich history dating back to 1935, with notable upgrades over the years, especially after a fire in 1984 destroyed the old City Stand. With an occupancy rate of over 90% and regularly sold-out matches, the stadium’s washrooms needed a refurbishment to meet the high demands of supporters. The challenge was to create washroom facilities that were not only practical and easy to maintain but also affordable and attractive for a diverse range of fans. The SolutionWorking alongside the end-user, architect, and contractor, Dunhams Washrooms provided a solution that balanced functionality with aesthetic appeal. The Challenger Cubicle System was chosen for its durability and ease of maintenance, crucial for handling the large volume of foot traffic during events. To ensure the washrooms would be neutral and welcoming, woodgrain and grey finishes were selected, avoiding any distinctive colours that could potentially alienate visiting team supporters. Additionally, modern mirrors above the vanity units added a unique finishing touch, making the space feel more spacious and open while contributing to a clean, contemporary look. The OutcomeThe newly refurbished washrooms at Carrow Road now provide a durable, easy-to-clean solution that meets the high-traffic demands of the stadium. The combination of the Challenger Cubicle System, neutral design elements, and modern finishes creates an inviting, functional space for supporters. The result is a practical yet attractive upgrade that enhances the fan experience, making the washroom facilities as impressive as the stadium itself.

The ChallengeStoral is a rapidly expanding group of award-winning nurseries located across England, known for delivering high-quality early years education in thoughtfully designed environments. They needed a washroom that was in keeping with their ethos. The SolutionTo ensure the success of this project, it was essential to gain a clear understanding of Storal’s immediate needs, current setup, and long-term vision. Following an in-depth consultation with one of Storal’s Project Managers, we conducted a site visit to their Farley Steeple nursery. This allowed us to explore the project in greater detail, introduce key members of our team, and outline our process.During our assessment, it became evident that a complete redesign of the washroom layout was necessary to meet their requirements. We developed a tailored specification guide for the site, including a range of finish options. To help Storal visualise the transformation, we also produced high-quality CGI renderings of the proposed washroom design. The OutcomeGiven the nursery setting, it was crucial to install cubicles that offered both privacy and visibility for supervision. When Storal’s preferred contractor was unable to take on the refurbishment, we introduced them to St Julians Builders who successfully delivered the project to specification. We worked closely with the builders to ensure all materials were delivered on time and in sequence with the project schedule. Based on the agreed specification, we installed Kinder SGL cubicles alongside low-level wash troughs, creating a safe, functional, and child-friendly washroom environment.“Working with Dunhams on creating a new look and standards for our nursery toilets was very enjoyable. They matched expertise with open-mindedness to work closely with us to create bespoke cubicles to our exacting specifications to a high level of craftsmanship, and we now have a remarkable toilet facility to support children’s development and independence”Stuart Graham, Storal Nurseries
