Langley Design set to work designing product that could hit the brief and the finished products were exactly what was required. WHAT WE DIDCreating a modern twistA new flat leg design was created alongside a modern twist on a traditional armrest, Iroko was chosen as the Timber species due to is quality, all metal elements were Galvanised and then Powder Coated to give it that extra superiority. The client was really keen to incorporate both benching and seating elements alongside providing enough spaces for passers-by to rest, eat and socialise.THE RESULTThe finishing touchThe bench/seat combination were provided at various lengths and the finishing touch was to engrave Capital & Centric Logo into the top slat to let everybody know whose seats these are.

THE BRIEFShopping development upgradeAs part of an upgrade to this existing shopping development, we were asked by the architect to come up with a solution to provide a seating facility for high volumes of shoppers.WHAT WE DIDNo foundations requiredOur Sheldon Bench (SBN335) with FSC Hardwood Iroko slats and grey granite plinth mounts was the ideal solution as these can be quickly installed to existing finished grade with no foundations required. This saved significantly on cost and importantly avoided closure of the area when the work took place as the installation was completed out of hours.

These simple yet stylish designs provide the perfect solution for working, dining, and socialising and allows the community to enjoy the wonderful scenery that the park has to offer.

THE BRIEFTimber smoking shelterCheshire College South & West is a former further education college, located in Crewe, Cheshire with state-of-the-art facilities and amazing student support.Langley Design were approached by the college directly as they had a requirement for a timber smoking shelter to provide a sheltered area and protection from the elements for the students. As a bespoke manufacturer, we were able to design a facetted version of our popular Sheldon Smoking Shelter SSS304 to satisfy the clients requirements. WHAT WE DIDMulti-purpose outdoor shelterConstructed with structurally graded Class 4 Treated Redwood and clad to the back and sides with premium Hardwood Iroko the shelter fits perfectly into the newly landscaped areas. THE BRIEFDigital skills centre landscaped courtyard at Cirencester CollegeLangley Design worked with E G Carter & Co on the new £4 million digital skills centre at Cirencester College and we were pleased to be able to offer our services on this local project. There was a requirement here for some curved timber seating for the newly landscaped courtyard areas. WHAT WE DIDPremium seating facilities for studentsWe manufactured and installed our Sheldon benches SBN307 in Class 4 Treated Redwood timber with a Dark Oak stain to give a more premium finish. The client opted for the more stylish flat legs for the benches which were powder coated to RAL8040 to tie in with the building façade. We also supplied our smaller Sheldon Cube SBN316 to provide individual seating facilities for the students. THE RESULTAn ongoing relationship with the collegeThe college were really pleased with our products and approached us directly a few months later to provide some picnic tables and benches to their roof terrace for the staff to enjoy the outdoors during breaktimes.The same material was chosen for these products to ensure consistency across the site.

THE BRIEFOutdoor street furniture solutionsCoombe Wood School is a comprehensive, mixed secondary school for children aged between 11 and 18 in Croydon. We worked with Wates on this £30 million project to provide a range of street furniture products to complement the newly landscaped areas.We manufactured a whole host of our own range of products here. The Timber cycle shelter was created in a way that covers two runs of cycle hoops under one roof, this allows for more bikes to be covered which acts as a fantastic incentive to get kids cycling to school. WHAT WE DIDStriking central courtyard featureFor the courtyard area, Langley Design provided a large timber pergola to add a striking central structure to the outside space where the children can congregate under to socialise, play, eat and learn. Our recycled plastic plinth mounted benches were chosen due to the longevity of the material. THE RESULTLow maintenance productsThe recycled plastic requires no maintenance and will continue to look as good as new in many years to come. It will last the lifetime of the project.Both the school and contractor were so pleased with our products that they have ordered another cycle shelter due for installation later this year.

THE BRIEFStreet furniture packageSpecified by PLACE DP for this high-calibre school re-build, an important element of the street furniture package, along with the benches and planters provided, was the parent and pupil waiting area situated at the front of the school. WHAT WE DIDCombined seatingThe requirement was for a large combined seating and cycle parking canopy, which was achieved by installing two large clear span units side by side. THE RESULTPleasing visual impactThe non-fragile polycarbonate roofing system is designed to let the light through, whilst stopping harmful UV rays. The bright and airy design of these shelters gives a pleasing visual impact to this area and reflects well on the quality of the whole school.

THE BRIEFExternal picnic tablesEmanuel School is an independent, co-educational school for pupils aged 10 to 18 located in Battersea, South West London. Langley Design were tasked with providing the school with a range of external picnic tables that could offer the students a place to eat, socialise and work from.We adapted our popular SPT317 picnic tables (which are traditionally provided in Timber or Recycled Plastic) to be manufactured using millboard decking.WHAT WE DIDHand-moulded materialThis is hand-moulded from natural timbers in a unique combination of resin and mineral stone and is almost indistinguishable from real wood yet designed to outperform it. By combining this material with the galvanised and powder coated metal frame we were able to produce our SPT317 unit in a modern and stylish design. THE RESULTDurable and stylish finishThe school were delighted with the result and we look forward to working with them again over the coming years.

THE BRIEFSecure bicycle storageLangley Design were delighted to work with Willmott Dixon on this £43 million office block expansion project in Billingham. As the leading UK manufacturer of timber shelters, we were happy to be specified by Ryder Architecture for this large timber enclosed cycle shelter.The enclosed cycle shelter allows the residents of the state-of-the-art three-storey office block to store their bicycles securely. We were also responsible for the manufacture and installation of the bin store and smoking shelter to the site. WHAT WE DIDOutdoor covered areaEach of the designs followed the same construction materials to create a stunning aesthetic across the site, the matching smoking shelter provided an outdoor covered area for office workers. All of these units had the added benefit of being provided with sedum roofs. A green roof has many benefits at economic, ecological and societal levels.THE RESULTBiodiversity in the cityA green roof provides a rainwater buffer, purifies the air, reduces the ambient temperature, regulates the indoor temperature, saves energy and encourages biodiversity in the city.Green roofs are part of climate-proof construction. Willmott Dixon were extremely pleased with the end result and we look forward to working with them on the next project.

THE BRIEFBespoke manufacturer and installerLangley Design were chosen by Willmott Dixon to lead the way on the multimillion pound Landmark building at Hans Price Academy. This was part of a wider £14 million renovation project at the college in Weston-super-Mare.Willmott Dixon needed a bespoke manufacturer and installer who knew what they were doing and who could offer a product and service that far exceeded expectations. WHAT WE DIDOutdoor timber canopyLangley Design's bespoke manufacturing capabilities enabled an L shaped timber canopy to be made which spans the length of the buildings. These canopies offer the end user so many different options such as outdoor dining, general student socialising, teaching and now even social distancing (a word not even in our vocabulary when these were installed).THE RESULTExterior picnic tablesWe also provided some further products from our Sheldon range, these included picnic tables and benches for the children to use for the social and dining activities listed as a benefit of the canopy.We also provided our galvanised and powder coated litter bins here to finish the external areas off.Our prompt and efficient installation team also enabled Willmott Dixon to complete the project nine weeks early.

THE BRIEFOutdoor seating for leisure centreLangley Design were pleased to work with Metnor Construction for the first time on Harrow Lodge Leisure Centre, a £20.5 million leisure facility in Hornchurch offering new swimming facilities in addition to a health & fitness suite, sports hall and exercise studio.WHAT WE DIDBespoke concrete benchesWe supplied a number of bespoke concrete benches, in both straight and curved arrangements. This included a large curved planter bench with a buff textured finish to provide seating for the visitors. THE RESULTDurable and modularThe durable and modular pre-cast concrete is available in a range of colours and finishes to match the client’s specific site requirements.These can also be provided with anti-graffiti coating or anti-skate studs for public realm areas, offering additional protection to this long lasting and modern looking product.

THE BRIEFEnhancing the outdoor spaceHinton Grange is a brand-new multi-million-pound care home in Cambridge. Langley Design worked with McGoff Construction on this brand-new facility, which provides full time residential and specialist dementia care for up to 68 senior citizens.We manufactured and installed a range of timber street furniture products to enhance the useability of the care homes outdoor spaces.WHAT WE DIDBespoke timber benchesOur hexagonal canopy with a tensile fabric roof is not only a distinctive feature in the courtyard but also offers shading for the residents during the summer months. As a bespoke manufacturer, we were able to provide bespoke timber benches which fit nicely inside to provide a social or dining area. Our timber pergola acts as a striking feature to the newly landscaped areas and the additional sides of cladding can offer protection from the elements. THE RESULTEnvironmentally friendlyWe also installed a combination bin and cycle storage unit with a sedum roof. A green roof has many benefits for the surrounding environment. These roofs are easy to maintain, the plants absorb carbon dioxide as well as other airborne particles and release oxygen into the air. They are also a great place for insects to live.

THE BRIEFFull regeneration projectLangley Design worked with Ground Control on part of the regeneration project for the former Longbridge car plant site in Birmingham. Longbridge is one of the largest and most significant regeneration schemes in the UK, a long-term £1 billion initiative to breathe new life into one of Britain’s most famous industrial areas.This scheme has produced shops, offices, new homes, a hotel and a college constructed alongside a park, helping a new community in south Birmingham to rapidly take shape.WHAT WE DIDNew seating solutionsLangley Design were tasked with providing the town’s new seating solutions. We manufactured and installed a range of benches and seats all in hardwood iroko and galvanised powder-coated steel to complement the newly landscaped area.THE RESULTBespoke manufacturerOur circular bench was specifically chosen to be placed around the town’s freshly planted trees, as a bespoke manufacturer we are able to provide solutions in a range of dimensions and with additional extras such as arm rests, backrests and anti-skate studs when needed.

THE BRIEFA visually stunning new link canopyLocated in Beverley, East Yorkshire, Longcroft School & 6th Form College provides local students a rich and varied range of educational opportunities in addition to their formal curriculum, including drama and music productions, sports and their Skills for Life programme.As part of the Priority School Building Programme 2 (PSBP2), Langley Design working alongside Henry Construction provided a visually stunning new link canopy and covered walkway uniting the schools existing buildings to the brand new block.WHAT WE DIDA striking splash of colourThe new block provides the school three additional floors of teaching space consisting of science labs & preparation rooms, a learning resource centre, teacher workroom and new student reception. The large Sheldon SPG326 canopy features a non-fragile polycarbonate roof, that provides cover and shade whilst offering a striking splash of colour to the scheme. THE RESULTDurable and long lasting solutionThe SPG326 is available in a range of materials, finishes and roofing colours suitable for a variety of project needs, and provided the school with additional space for the Sheldon Picnic Table set (SPT312/SBN310) offering extra dining facilities for the students, with black recycled plastic slats these are a durable and long lasting solution requiring almost no maintenance that will still look great in the years to come.

THE BRIEFOutdoor storage and seatingParade Green is a brand new student accommodation development in Oxford and offers over 800 rooms. The design was inspired by Oxford’s historic college quads, with plenty of open space to give it a village feel.Langley Design were approached by the RG Group as there was a requirement for cycle parking facilities for the large number of occupants. As the UK leading manufacturer of timber cycle shelters, we were chosen to manufacture and install our Sheldon units in various locations across the site.WHAT WE DIDOptimising the spaceIn order to optimise the use of space, our two tier cycle racks were seen to be the most suitable option to accommodate the large number of bikes. The project also required canopies to be installed in the courtyard to provide covered seating areas for the students to enjoy the outdoor space in any weather.THE RESULTAdditional wind protectionAs a bespoke manufacturer, we were able to produce a canopy with timber cladding to the sides of the units which offered additional protection from the wind whilst still allowing airflow and light through the unit.The end result looks fantastic and the RG Group were delighted with the flexibility of the Langley Design installation service and our ability to meet the tight deadlines.

THE BRIEFBespoke design capabilitiesLangley Design were delighted to showcase our more creative side on the Sky Pavilion project delivered by ISG.Working with Duffy Construction and using our bespoke design capabilities we manufactured and installed a stunning curved timber bench top affixed to the pre-cast concrete below.WHAT WE DIDCreating a relaxing, social aestheticMade from hardwood Cumaru with a rounded front edge and drip groove, the timber acts to soften the look of the concrete and provides a contrast between the landscape materials whilst forming a relaxing aesthetic, offering all employees and visitors a chance to enjoy the great outdoors with somewhere comfortable to sit, dine and socialise.THE RESULTPopular and cost effectiveSpecialists in both street furniture and external structures Langley Design were also able to produce 70m worth of timber screening utilising our popular and cost effective Sheldon range, manufactured in structural grade European Redwood this closed off access and protected the sites plant equipment.

THE BRIEFSecure bike parking facilitiesLangley Design worked with WeBlack Ltd on the William Morris Close housing project in Oxford to manufacture and install a number of our timber enclosed sedum cycle shelters.As a leading provider of timber enclosed units, we were pleased to be able to offer our services on this project to provide secure parking facilities for the residents. WHAT WE DIDCarbon footprint offsettingThe green roofs on the cycle shelters help the structure blend into the landscape and offsets some of the carbon footprint created by the site with the roofing system being supported by a robust structure made with structural grade Class 4 timber. THE RESULTCompliment the landscapeWe also provided our Langley benches manufactured in Hardwood Iroko timber with galvanised and powder coated flat legs. The combination of these premium materials were chosen to complement the newly landscaped areas.
