When the last remaining building of Birmingham’s first gas works was bought by the Church of England, they were aware that, when newly constructed in 1818, its main function was the supply of gas to illuminate the dark streets. Now redeveloped into a vibrant church named St. Luke's, Gas Street it offers a different kind of light to the people of the city.In its new role, the former Gas Retort House now has a growing congregation of over 300, mainly comprising of young people and students, who are led by The Revd. Tim Hughes, his wife Rachel and a dynamic team who are committed to making positive impact on Broad Street and the wider area.
Firedor: Minerva House

Demanding and prestigious, Reading’s Minerva House project required doors with both specialist colour effects and fire rating. The specified solution, Strongdor’s Firedor series, surpassed those requirements while remaining within budget.In order to maintain the aesthetic coherence and tension between the interior and exterior spaces and create continuity, it was necessary that the doors should be fitted with themed ironmongery.

Originally founded in 1925 by the Salesians of Don Bosco, Thornleigh College in Bolton currently houses over 1500 pupils. When replacement doors were needed for this busy school and sixth form, reliability and resilience were key considerations.In order to minimise disruption, all work had to be completed within a tight deadline. Functioning in an environment where there was an expectation of high traffic.

Integrating these elements can often be a source of snags and delay on site. Working with our partners within the industry and construction trade, Strongdor identified and resolved potential issues before the doors where delivered.
Securidor: Roosecote Battery Storage Facility

One of the world’s largest battery storage facilities is taking shape on the site of the former power station at Roosecote, near Barrow in Cumbria. Commissioned by Centrica, as part of a £180m investment programme to develop new, flexible power plants across the country, the Roosecote battery storage facility is a state of the art project that will store energy harvested from the grid until needed.With work on the site expected to be completed by the end of 2018, when the facility comes online it will boast the capacity to generate a staggering 49MW. That’s enough electricity to power around 50,000 homes at a very nimble response time of less than a second. Containing approximately 100,000 battery cells, it marks a new era for the energy industry.

With backing from a local businessman, The Coasters recently moved into their prestigious new home, Mill Farm in Wesham. This purpose built £18m sports village development matches the ambitions of the club. The resulting ultra-modern stadium has capacity for 6,000 supporters and meets the exacting requirements of the Football League.Setting the pace at the top of the National League North, AFC Fylde look like a team seriously chasing their goal of attaining Premier League status by 2022. Quite an achievement for a club that started its current journey 28 years ago in the second division of the West Lancashire League.

There may well be 9 million cycles in Beijing, but now in Cambridge at least 3,000 cycle commuters are starting to benefit from the opening of a state-of-the-art cycle park.Cycle-Point is located close to the main railway station to encourage the cycle-mad city’s pedallers to let the train take the strain. Confident that they have left their wheels in a safe and secure environment.

They can accommodate activities such as basketball, netball, volleyball, korfball, handball, badminton and table tennis and can also be used as one huge indoor arena for events and competitions.

Part of a £5 million plan to bring more business to the south side of the North West resort, Enterprise Court is the latest development in the Blackpool Enterprise Zone, situated on Amy Johnson Way.Funded entirely by private sector investment and consisting of small offices and workshops, the development will initially comprise of 12 units. The plan is to increase capacity to 50 units with potential for further expansion at a later date.

Steeldor: Net Services, Isle of Scalpay

April 2017 and the future looked bleak for a fire-engulfed net repair factory on the small island of Scalpay. Fire crews from Scalpay, Tarbert, Leverburgh and Stornaway rushed to the scene, as the massive blaze took hold of the facility and the roof looked in danger of collapse. They deployed high pressure hoses to douse the conflagration.Opened in 2008, the factory employed 14 staff and had been used to clean, repair and apply treatment to salmon farming nets. The Norwegian owned operators of the Net Services Scotland site faced an uphill struggle to get the site back up and running again. Hampered by the remote location of the Outer Hebrides and its distance from the mainland.

Since changing its name in 1982, the store has not looked back and now boasts about 700 stores worldwide.One such store, based near Edinburgh, made use of Steeldor to protect entrances to the back of the unit.

In 1872, when Giovanni Battista Pirelli set up his elastic rubber company in Milan, he could scarce be aware that from its humble origin, the business would go on to become the fifth largest global tyre manufacturing company after Bridgestone, Michelin, Continental and Goodyear.Now part Chinese owned, but Pirelli manufactures tyres in 19 factories based in 13 countries worldwide, which gave them a production capacity of 71 million car tyres in 2016. Two of those factories are based in the UK. One is at Burton-on-Trent and the other is the recently extended site at Dalton Road in Carlisle.

Established in 1982, Wirral Metropolitan College was founded on a vision to enhance the economic prosperity of young people, adults and employers through the delivery of high quality, work-related education and training. Currently, the college consists of four unique campus settings, but a fifth is under way. The new site will be dedicated to Professional Studies and Leadership Development and is due to open in September 2021.The College has recently benefited from a £6 million refurbishment programme to improve both the quality and aesthetic of the campuses, an investment that represents significant progress toward their aim to be an inclusive, outstanding college. One of the beneficiaries of this investment was the vibrant orange Twelve Quays Campus.
